New Red Heart Pomp-A-Doodle
 This new fun and unique yarn features fluffy pom-poms strung together by twisted yarn cording. Using US size 9 (5.5mm) knitting needles or an I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook, the pom-poms stitch together to create a soft, cushy fabric that is not only easy to make but even more fun to wear and share with others. 69 Parking Meters Covered in Knitted Cozies
The Montague Street Business Improvement District, in Brooklyn Heights, NY, unveiled the final knitted artwork, officially opening 69 Meters, a public-art installation that will beautify the city’s main shopping street through mid June. 69 Meters is a collaboration between Magda Sayeg – the founder of Knitta Please, the guerilla knitting collective – and nearly 50 volunteer knitters.
Hand-knitted cozies were created by dozens of Brooklyn residents and were also contributed by knitters as far away as San Francisco, Paris, and Santiago, Chile. The 69 Meters pieces will be attached to each meter pole below the parking meter itself.
To thank them for their contribution, each volunteer knitter received three skeins of Red Heart's Eco-Ways™ yarn, an innovative, easy-care product that lessens the impact on the environment because it is made with 30% recycled polyester from plastic. Red Heart hopes their donation will help the volunteers beautify more urban locations, using eco-friendly yarn. See the beauty hand knitting adds to this urban area.

Big Special Olympics Thank You!
Over 60,000! What started as an idea to provide a unique gift to all of the athletes competing at the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games, blossomed into over 60,000 scarves from all corners of the world and from every state in the U.S. The Games Organizing Committee decided to show the athletes the ultimate in support.
The GOC made the Red Heart® Super Saver™ Delft Blue and White Scarves available to the community of Boise, ID, site of the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games. An amazing sea of Blue and White greeted athletes at every event and even on very important guests, such as Vice President Joe Biden.
Even better, nearly $50,000 was raised by monetary donations inspired by the scarves. From Red Heart, a great big THANK YOU for your generosity, talent and overwhelming support.

Knit-Out 2009

Kathleen Sams, our Red Heart Ambassador, was there spreading the joy of all things yarn. She held classes on how to make striping and fair isle patterns without hassles, easy to achieve when you use Red Heart® Heart & Sole™ sock yarn, plus they feel great on your feet thanks to the aloe vera permeated in the fibers.
She also got into the sock groove for crochet lovers too with toe up crochet socks. As always, Kathleen took the mystery out of Knit and Crochet Cables using Red Heart® Soft Yarn® and Eco-Ways™ yarn -- decorative yet earth friendly. In the end, there were lots of samples to inspire, friendly competitions to challenge and free demos all to make your knit and crochet life easy, fun and stitchey.
