More and more people are finding out that crochet and knitting are great stress relievers.   I have also heard from people who have serious health issues and that knitting and/or crocheting has actually saved them.  It keeps your hands and brain active and has also been helpful in teaching kids math skills as well as helping them with dexterity.  I also find it fun and exciting being able to create with different yarn textures and stitch combinations.

I want to hear your stories about how crochet or knitting has helped you or someone you know.  I know you have a story to tell so let's hear it.  I'll start by giving you a quick post from our forum.

In 1997, when I got married, I stopped. I don't know why because at 33, going back for my masters degree, I find it to be one of the most relaxing things to do.  I'm working on a full career change - computers to psychology - so I can only see where all of this goes in the end... but what I do know is that now I've refound my passion for crochet, no matter what happens, I'll be crocheting while I do it.

I cannot stress the importance of how crocheting can really help relieve stress. I actually am working on a bit of an article/story about crocheting and the benefits of stress release. I, amidst everything else, suffer from severe anxiety disorder. I detest car rides - the longer the more antsy I get as "travel day" gets closer - since picking up the needle again, I get a LOT of work done in the car... no, not while driving *chuckles* In no time, I've completed more work for my project AND my nerves were saved. Travel is a lot more enjoyable now. So, with this, I want to share my experience as a person and a professional to show folks that things like crochet can be more of a benefit than getting a great blanket, sweater, or pot holder out of the deal.
