Dusty Snowflake Throw Crochet Along Week 4

Dusty Snowflake Throw Crochet Along Week 4

Here we are on week 4 of the Dusty Snowflake Crochet Along.  We have a fourth and final video on completing the throw, as well as, showing other color combinations. As you work on your throws, or complete them, we would enjoy seeing pictures of you creations, as would all of our other friends.  I’ll be enjoying a little quite time tonight and working on my throw.  I’m hoping to have this one completed by Christmas.  Who's with me ... are you working on your throw tonight?

Watch the How-To videos for the different techniques on completing each motif.  Tell us about your progress and share with us pictures of your progress each week on Red Heart's Facebook page.

Color idea

I was just thinking this would make a very pretty lotus design. You could use white with a purple center background and a mixed green instead of the blue.

Dusty Snowflake Throw

I work full time and I don't always have as much time as I would like to dedicate to a project once I have begun so I try to find ways to make the most of the time I do get. For this project, I found that for myself, it goes along much quicker to go through the rounds on seven motifs one after the other. Since you need seven motifs for one row, I crochet for color A seven times and then put color A aside for a while until I finish all seven with color B for rounds three and four. Once you get to finishing round five on all seven, you basically have seven snowflakes and all you have to do is go one by one doing the lacework on round six and then the joining with round seven. I finish a full row in no time at all. I do the same with the fillers. I make six little circles of round one and then go one by one with round two and then joining.

Tip on weaving in ends

If you dislike weaving in ends as much as I do, here's a tip on making the process easier.

I discovered that crocheting in my ends as I go helps to make "weaving in ends" a lot simpler/faster. My first motif has a lot more ends to weave in than the subsequent ones. My learning curve is rapid.

I align the 'end' with the row I'm working on and crochet over it until it's all woven in. Easy. Straight-forward. Neat. And it speeds up your finishing.

Weaving ends

I also find that weaving the ends as I go was the best way for me. I thought I was the only one. Thank you.

Dusty Snowflake Afghan

This is such a beautiful afghan, and it doesn't look difficult at all to make! And having video's to follow along with makes it all that much more fun to do!
