Quick and Easy Faux Brie Perfect for Holiday Snacking
Normally we are all about yarn and fast holiday projects, but hey…a girl has to eat during the holidays too! So, I thought I would give you a quick recipe for those holiday get togethers where you forgot you had to bring something or you want to look like you slaved over a hot stove for hours and it only really took a few minutes – don’t you just love those kinds of things!
We all have recipes that we have been making for many, many years, but we really don’t know how we actually got the recipe…..well this is one of those from my house. I have been making this for at least 20 years (no, I am not kidding) and every time I bring this, it is a crowd pleaser and everyone thinks it is so much harder than it really is.
Faux Brie Cheese
1 block cream cheese 8 ox. (you can use reduced fat but the regular works the best – I do not recommend fat free)
4 pack of uncooked crescent rolls – 4 oz. Or ½ of an 8oz roll
Egg white (optional)
Pre heat the oven to 375 or the temperature recommended on the crescent roll package
Unroll the 4 crescent rolls – do not pull them apart – place on non-stick baking sheet.
Place the block of cream cheese on 2 of the crescent rolls – leaving the other 2 still connected.
Sprinkle with as much dill weed as possible all over the cream cheese, under the cream cheese – the more dill weed the better! Make sure to get some on the sides. I like to make cuts in the cream cheese and sprinkle some in the cuts so it gets to the middle of the cream cheese.
Fold the other 2 crescent rolls over the block of cream cheese. Seal all the edges so that the cream cheese is completely enclosed in the crescent rolls.
You can make some decorative cuts in the top of the crescent roll if you would like. Brush with egg white so that it turns a nice brown color.
Bake according to the crescent roll directions on the package – approximately 10-12 minutes or until the crescent roll exterior has a nice light brown color – the bottom will cook faster than the top so be careful not to burn the bottom.
That’s it! Take from the oven right to a serving platter and serve with your favorite crackers. The cream cheese gets all melty and mixes with the dill weed when you cut into it. It tastes like a really expensive cheese – you don’t have to tell that it is just cream cheese!
