Quick Ways to Deck the Halls with Yarn

Quick Ways to Deck the Halls with Yarn

We have over 100 patterns that were designed with the winter holidays and Christmas in mind on the redheart.com web site. But here are a few colorful ideas for creating a festive atmosphere that I wanted to pass along that don’t really take a whole pattern to explain.

Ruffle Scarf Garland: Use a Sashay scarf to dress up your mantel, a stairway railing or a shelf. It doesn’t take long to knit or crochet with Boutique Sashay. I twisted a length of Pomp-A-Doodle yarn in Fluff around two red Sashay scarfs to go across the mantel. Simply wonderful!

Sashay Chain Garland: Using some of the same red Boutique Sashay yarn, I made a chain using an extra-large Susan Bates Q hook. You don’t open up the ruffle yarn, you just use it directly from the ball. This is a super-fast way to create a unique garland!

Celebration Crochet Garland: Celebration is a relatively new member of the Red Heart family. It is just like Holiday yarn but comes in brighter party colors with a metallic touch for sparkle. Again, take up your Susan Bates Q hook and hold three different color strands of yarn together. I used Aqua and Lime Celebration and White Holiday yarn. Make a chain as long as you want it, then work back to the beginning making a single crochet in each chain. Relax and work loosely. Before you know it, you can have a yarn garland that reflects the real you!

Spark-A-Doodle or Pomp-A-Doodle Garland: You don’t have to do anything! Just take the pompom yarn directly from the ball and add a festoon of little pompoms wherever you wish…use it to trim the tree before adding ornaments…to add life to a wreath…to wrap gifts…to spruce up a green garland. I used White. Be creative and use any color you choose!
