Pattern 11

I noticed that the hook described to use is "G" where the others it's "F"
Having said that I followed the direction and pattern 11 came out way too big, almost like 12 x12. If the squares are to be connected later on, it will not be align, because the others does measure 10x10. Shouldn't we used the same size hook as the other patterns ? I don't understand why we are to use different size of hook ? Please help clarify...thank you!

Pattern 11

Hi, The designer used a larger hook on the granny square to make the square the same size as the textured squares. You should use whatever size hook will let you get gauge and crochet the square the same size as the textured squares that you are making. Don't hesitate to change the size of the hook to make the finished product come out the correct size.

Is there a specific page/group where we post the pictures to on Ravelry?

I tried searching and could not seem to find it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Ball vs Skein, what is the difference?

I know how to find yardage on the skein wrapper and I am figuring out the differences in weights and sizes. However, I don't know what the difference is between a ball and a skein. So how many skeins is 13 balls or how many yards?
Thank you :)

Ball vs Skein, what is the difference?

Hi, Balls are generally smaller than skeins, and ours are usually designed so the yarn unwinds from the outside. Skeins are bigger and are more tube-like in shape, and the yarn can come from the inside or the outside. When you're substituting yarn, it doesn't matter if the yarn is in a ball or a skein -- what matters is how many yards each of them have. With Love and Super Saver are both skeins of size 4 yarn, but they have different yardage. You'll need to figure out the total yardage of the throw and divide that by the number of yards per ball or skein of your substitute yarn to figure out the total number of balls or skeins you will need.

Skeins and Balls

I never knew this. I always thought skeins were the twisty looking yarns that I put over the back of a chair to wind into a ball and that the ball was what Red Heart yarn came in. Are you writing from the UK. Maybe that could be the difference. I checked with a shop in Barrie and they thought the same as myself. It would be interesting to know for other CAL's that might come up. Thank you, am enjoying the throw so much and have learned a great deal.

patterns???

Hi, There are 10 other square patterns besides the granny square. You will make one square for each of those patterns. We've released the first pattern, the Cross-Stitched Square (http://www.redheart.com/blog/cross-stitched-square-checkerboard-textures...), and the next one will be released next week.

Pattern

When printing this pattern the way it appears, it appears very small and on 1/2 the page and the abbreviations are on the 2nd page. Do I have to change the settings - this has never happened before with any other of your patterns.

Pattern

Hi, Are you sure your printer is printing it landscape style? The pattern was created and formatted exactly like all of the rest of our patterns.

deejay34's picture

Not Printing Landscape

I have had only one set of directions print out Landscape. I put it down to using my iPad. The iPad Airwaves doesn't give the OPTIPN OF PRINTING LANDSCAPE OR VERTICAL . I don't know why it printed the directions Landscape once. It doesn't bother me.

first square problems

I am starting late on this project but I had another project I just had to finish first. So the problem is I am using RH super saver yarn and after trying the F, G, H, and I hooks I'm still not getting the gauge correct. Do I just keep going higher with hook sizes or am I doing something wrong? I really want to crochet this project.

Thank you,
Diane

first square problems

Hi, If you can't get the gauge correct, you can keep trying, or you can create a fabric that you like and make the squares that size. It might mean that your squares are 9"x9" or 11"x11" instead of 10"x10", which means that your finished blanket will be different dimensions, but if you're happy with it then go for it! If you make squares that are not on gauge, make sure you have enough yarn to complete your project.

I am having the exact

I am having the exact opposite problem! Mine are too big. Done 4 of them now, and this last one was 11x11, but still too big! I went down to a 3.75mm hook - looks like I need to redo it AGAIN with a 3.50mm hook and hope for the best! It's getting to be pretty frustrating!

afghan checkerboard crochet along

Hi, You're welcome to use a different square! Your finished afghan will look different but if you like the way it looks that's fine.

So Much fun!!

I have never done a crochet along before, but am already in love with this concept. My local yarn store didn't have enough of any color of Red Heart Soft yarn, so I am doing mine with Red Heart With Love in aubergine. So far I love the patterns and the way this yarn is working up. Thanks so much for the opportunity to be a part of this!

granny square for LW4132

i am not good at crocheting the granny square and i was wondering if the granny square has to be the one that you do 10 of or can you pick any of the squares that are coming up or the one that was the first one to do as 10 squares i was having trouble with it measuring 10 by 10 mine was coming out 11 by 11 and the spaces were bigger than picture i have taken it apart about 4 x's now and i finally got it to be 11 by 11 it had measured up to 14 by 15 at one time i just don't know what to do now tear it apart again and start over or what

gauge

Try switching to a smaller hook.... You can change the hooks size in order to achieve the correct gauge... That is what I do when this happens to me

granny square for LW4132

Hi, If you want to change the pattern so you do a different number of squares, that's completely fine! The original pattern has you making 10 of the granny square, and one each of the other 10 squares for a total of 20 squares. If you really love the first square and want to make 10 of it instead and only make one granny square, go ahead! Or make two of every other type of square and no granny squares. You're making your own throw, so if you want to change it up that's fine.

Total Number of Squares

Hi, I am excited to start this project, but want to do it in several colors, what is the total number of squares fro the completed afghan?

Also how many boarder rounds are there?

Thanks!
Looks like fun!

Hi, For the afghan, there are 20 squares. 10 of them are this Granny Square pattern. The other 10 are 10 different textured square patterns. There are 10 border rounds.
