I have used this pattern several times

I have used this pattern to make hats 4 times. The first time I did not know enough about front-post crochet to do it correctly, so instead of that type ribbing, I cast onto knitting needles and did 20 rows of k1p1 ribbing. I did have to make the crochet part more rows than is in the pattern in order for it to fit my guys...they have larger hat sizes, and they wanted to be able to cover their ears and have enough to fold down to cover the back of their neck and part of their face. I liked the way the knitted binding worked on the first hat, so I did that with all of them. Two of the hats were in a multi-color brown yarn, and one was in a multi-color blue yarn. This is definitely a usable pattern, even though I played with it.
