EZ Knitting: How to Do the Criss Cross Stitch

Once you've mastered the garter and stocking stitch, kick your Bernat Alize Blanket-EZ knitting skills up a notch with the criss cross stitch. This fun, beyond basics stitch adds texture and interest to even the simplest of projects.

Step 1

Count out your stitches and make sure all of your loops are pointing upwards.

Step 2

Cross the last loop of your project yarn on top of the second last loop of your project yarn. So, if your pattern requires that you have a base of 20 loops, cross loop 20 over loop 19, moving right to left. Pinch your crossed loops at the base.

Step 3

Take the first loop of your working yarn, cross it behind the first loop of your project and pull it through.

Step 4

Take the next loop of your working yarn, work it behind the crossed stitches and pull it through the lefthand loop from back to front. Continue alternating between crossing and looping the remaining yarn until you get to the end of your project yarn loops.

Step 5

For the next row, do not turn the yarn and instead work left to right. Do not work the first loop. Instead, leave it out and instead cross the second loop over the third loop and then pull the next loop in the working yarn through the loop, form back to front.

Step 6

For the third row, do not skip the first loop. Continue alternating between crossing loops and pulling loops through until you have done the required amount of rows and stitches for your pattern.
