EZ Knitting: How to Do the Twisted Garter Stitch

Once you've mastered the EZ-knitting basic stitches like the garter stitch and the stocking stitch, it's time to move on to something little more advanced. The Twisted garter stitch adds a little extra oomph to your EZ-knitting projects.

Garter Stitch: A foundational stitch that produces a flat, reversible knitted fabric that won't roll up at the edges. Also, known as the knit stitch. Watch Video.

Stocking Stitch: A stitch created by alternating knit and purl rows. Also, called a stockinette stitch. Watch Video.

Step 1

Count out the required number of loops that you'll need for your project and, with your tail end on the left.

Cast on: Make sure to pull up your loops afterwards and ensure that there are no twists in them.

Step 2

Moving from left to right, take your first loop from your project yarn and give it a clockwise 180 degree twist and then insert the next available loop from the working yarn through from the back. Continue repeating until your reach the end of your project yarn.

Step 3

Pull up all the loops and make sure that there is no slack.

Step 4

Moving right to left, take your first loop from your project yarn, give it a 180 degree clockwise twist and insert the loop through the next available look from the working yarn from the front to the back. Continue repeating until your reach the end of your project yarn.
